The physicians of Rutherford OB-GYN Associates provide services to screen for and prevent cervical cancer. As part of the annual well-woman exam, the Pap test may be done to check for abnormal cells in the cervix that may lead to cervical cancer. If a Pap test shows abnormal cells, your physician will discuss the best treatment options for you. Your doctor also may test for human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can be harmless but also could develop into precancerous lesions or cervical cancer. There is a new FDA approved vaccine that helps protect against diseases caused by HPV. The vaccine is called GARDISIL and is for girls and women 9 through 26. The vaccine is available in our office. |
